Thatching (Dethatching)
Thatch is the spongy layer of dead grass and roots that builds up between the green blades and the soil. Too much of it chokes a lawn. Dethatching pulls it out so the grass can breathe again.
What's included
- Dethatching the lawn to lift out the matted layer
- Cleanup of the loosened thatch
- Pairs well with aeration and overseeding (ask about combining them)
Who it's for
- Lawns that feel spongy underfoot
- Lawns where water runs off instead of soaking in
- Thin or patchy lawns that are not responding to care
When to book
Dethatching is usually done when the lawn is actively growing so it can recover, most often early fall or spring.
We do thatching for homeowners and for commercial properties, all around West Salem, La Crosse, Onalaska, Holmen and the rest of the area we cover.
Questions
How do I know if my lawn needs it?
If the lawn feels spongy, or you can see a thick brown layer at the base of the grass, it probably does. Send a photo with your quote request and we will take a look.
